As a South Asian Brotherhood, Delta Epsilon Psi takes pride in its diverse cultures and promotes its philanthropy through volunteer service and leadership within the surrounding community. While uniting the brothers more intimately with the community, Delta Epsilon Psi fosters the proliferation of South Asian philosophy and culture to transcend religious and regional barriers and to create South Asian awareness.

National HistoryIn October 1998, Delta Epsilon Psi (D.E.Psi) became the first South Asian Service Fraternity in the southern region of the USA. D.E.Psi prides itself on aiding individuals reach their potential in the process of serving the needs of our community. As members, Brothers recognize and understand the power of unity amongst South Asians.Delta Epsilon Psi means more to us than simply being another organization or "club." Our fraternity is a family. Together we are driven to instill the virtues of brotherhood, discipline, and commitment within our members through various service and social activities. We were founded on the idea that together we can achieve greater success than when standing alone. Our goals are structured both for the growth of the fraternity, and the individual. We aim to provide a basic support network for members to succeed academically, to unite members with the community, to transcend religious and regional barriers within our community, and to create an awareness of South Asian needs and problems to the community.Our goal is for our members to develop self-confidence, leadership qualities, social skills, and a belief in the potential and strengths of their abilities.One of the best qualities of Delta Epsilon Psi is the diversity of our members. We have successfully molded together the different nationalities, cultures, and religions into an active group of influential students. Our eclectic collection of individuals and personalities gives Delta Epsilon Psi a very unique perspective on the various issues and problems facing our society today.Chapter HistoryIn the Fall of 2007, the dream to bring Delta Epsilon Psi to Rutgers University was made possible by twelve young men. These twelve founding fathers envisioned a fraternity that rested on the pillars of brotherhood, discipline, and commitment. Driven by their desire for service, these men wanted to bring a voice to the South Asian community. On December 8th, 2007, the initial interest group was formed on the Rutgers University-New Brunswick campus. Throughout the following years, these men recruited others who had a similar vision on their campus. Together these men were forged into leaders and extended their involvement into other organizations. The establishment of Kappa Chapter became the stepping stone for the expansion of Delta Epsilon Psi throughout the Northeast region.Mission StatementWe the Brothersof Delta Epsilon Psivow to be a fraternitywhose primary purpose is to instillBrotherhood, Discipline and Commitmentwithin its members through varioussocial and service driven endeavours.

National PhilanthropyJuvenile DiabetesJuvenile Diabetes is a disease, which strikes children suddenly, making them insulin-dependent for life, and causes them to carry the constant threat of devastating complications. Juvenile Diabetes is diagnosed when a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. This disease usually strikes in childhood but lasts a lifetime. People with Juvenile Diabetes must take multiple injections of insulin daily or continuous infusion of insulin through a pump just to survive.JDRF, the leading charitable funder and advocate of juvenile (Type 1) diabetes research worldwide, was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $800 million in direct funding to diabetes research. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through support of research.WHAT IS DIABETES?Diabetes (medically known as diabetes mellitus) is the name given to disorders in which the body has trouble regulating its blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels. There are two major types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes, also called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a disorder of the body's immune systemthat is, its system for protecting itself from viruses, bacteria or any "foreign" substances.Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body's immune system attacks and destroys certain cells in the pancreas, an organ about the size of a hand that is located behind the lower part of the stomach. These cells called beta cells are contained, along with other types of cells, within small islands of endocrine cells called the pancreatic islets. Beta cells normally produce insulin, a hormone that helps the body move the glucose contained in food into cells throughout the body, which use it for energy. But when the beta cells are destroyed, no insulin can be produced, and the glucose stays in the blood instead, where it can cause serious damage to all the organ systems of the body.For this reason, people with type 1 diabetes must take insulin in order to stay alive. This means undergoing multiple injections daily, or having insulin delivered through an insulin pump, and testing their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood six or more times a day. People with diabetes must also carefully balance their food intake and their exercise to regulate their blood sugar levels, in an attempt to avoid hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemic (high blood sugar) reactions, which can be life threatening.The warning signs of type 1 diabetes include extreme thirst; frequent urination; drowsiness or lethargy; sugar in urine; sudden vision changes; increased appetite; sudden weight loss; fruity, sweet, or wine-like odor on breath; heavy, labored breathing; stupor; and unconsciousness. Generally, type 1 diabetes is diagnosed in children, teenagers, or young adults. Scientists do not yet know exactly what causes type 1 diabetes, but they believe that autoimmune, genetic, and environmental factors are involved.Colony PhilantropyTomorrows Children's Fund The Tomorrows Childrens Fund was founded by a group of committed parents to help their children and others like them with cancer and serious blood disorders.Through generous donations and the hard work of the staff, Tomorrow's Children Fund provides a warm, healthy and loving environment for children in treatment while providing a full scope of services to relieve families emotional and financial stress. Their goal is to provide the best possible medical care while also funding research on these diseases they are treating. Tomorrow's Children Fund is driven by the belief that through hope, hard work and heartfelt generosity, extraordinary things are possible. Tomorrows Children's Fund is a privately funded, non-profit organization dedicated to easing the pain and speeding the healing of children with cancer and serious blood disorders. The organization was started by a group of sixteen parents whose children were diagnosed with cancer or another serious blood disorder over twenty-five years ago. Rather than losing hope when hit by such tragic news, these heroes worked to help other children inflicted with these diseases as well as attempt to bring comfort to their loved ones.These parents were desperate for simple comforts for their children and themselves at the treatment center. Starting with small changes-books, toys and games to help alleviate the strain of treatment for little ones; coffee, comfortable seating and the solace of others to help reduce the stress for parents-they searched for ways to make each day a little brighter for the children and those who loved them. This group of strangers soon became friends, turned their helplessness into hope and created Tomorrow's Children Fund. That dream was realized with the opening of the DON IMUS - WFAN Pediatric Center for Tomorrows Children at Hackensack University Medical Center in 1994. This leading-edge facility is home to the Tomorrows Children's Institute, New Jersey's premier center for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer and blood disorders. Today, it's where children from all walks of life come for compassionate, world-class medical care from an expert and comforting staff. Where little ones undergoing treatment often linger to finish an art project or learn another magic trick. Where teenagers pound pinball machines, enjoy music and master video games as hours formerly dreaded now move by quickly. Where parents share their hopes, fears and concerns with others who understand their pain. Tomorrows Children's Fund created a number of programs to assist patients and their families during these very difficult times. Rent, mortgages, utility bills and car payments are paid by Tomorrows Children's Fund to families who meet specific financial requirements. Many families face economic distress during this time, usually one parent may be forced to stop working to care for their sick child, which means one less income, but the bills don't stop. That is where Tomorrow's Children Fund steps in and helps ease the financial burden. The Financial Aid Program provides assistance to families in great financial need. During the first few months of treatment Tomorrow's Children Fund will pay rent and household bills so parents can focus on helping their child.TCF has grown to become a beacon of hope for families that so desperately need it. With the hard work and determination of the staff, as well as the much needed donations of others, TCF can grow to touch even more family's hearts.

If you feel that you can be a valuable asset to an organization or if you are willing and able to learn how to become a leader then Rush D.E.Psi.Do I have to be South Asian?There are brothers in chapters of Delta Epsilon Psi all over the nation of non South-Asian descent including Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, and African American. Delta Epsilon Psi stresses that it is a South Asian INTEREST Fraternity, which means that anyone who is interested in our goals, both Asian and non-Asian, are encouraged to join.Do I have to pay?No. All rush events are free for rushees.Can I get a ride?We will provide transportation for rushees to all of our events. Please contact the Rush Coordinator for more information.What is a bid?A bid is an invitation to enter the intake process and continue on the path to becoming a brother. Bids are given at the end of rush to rushees that the brothers feel would be a good fit with our fraternity. You are not obligated to accept a bid if given one; rush is non-committal.
